Govt Decreases Petrol Price for First Time in Over a Month

The federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum product prices, marking the first decrease in petrol prices after three consecutive hikes.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been decreased by Rs. 1, bringing the new price to Rs. 256.13 per liter. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been slashed by Rs. 4, setting the new rate at Rs. 263.95 per liter. These revised prices have taken effect from February 16, 2025.
The Finance Division stated that the new fuel prices have been adjusted in response to recent fluctuations in the international oil market. The move comes as part of the government’s periodic review of petroleum prices, aiming to reflect global market trends in domestic fuel pricing.
During the last fortnightly review, the government had raised the price of petrol by Rs. 1, increasing it to Rs. 257.13 per liter, while HSD saw a Rs. 7 hike, bringing it to Rs. 267.95 per liter. The latest decrease offers slight relief to consumers after a series of price hikes over the past month.
